DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Blackouts and fuel shortage paralyse the country

Dominicans have grown accustomed to frequent blackouts, which sometimes last for as long as ten hours a day. In the last few weeks, however, problems with energy supply have worsened following delays in the delivery of crude oil from Venezuela and the US. These delays caused a complete shortage of petrol and diesel in the country's pumps, affecting transportation, industry and trade.
